ABOUT FERNAY MCPHERSON

Fernay McPherson, owner of the popular East Bay eatery Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement, grew up working in the family kitchen alongside her grandmother Lilllie and great aunt Minnie Bell. This spring McPherson honors her lineage by opening Minnie Bell’s in the Fillmore, a neighborhood with deep family roots. “I think I’m still processing the fact that we’re coming home,” says McPherson.

ABOUT CITIZEN FILM AND BLACK ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Many black entrepreneurs in the Bay are committed to creating spaces that keep dollars in their neighborhoods and lift up their communities. Sharing powerful, authentic stories of these entrepreneurs’ work—their dreaming, striving, overcoming challenges and celebrating achievements—is essential to supporting their successes and to manifesting a collective, community-centered vision.

With the support of our partners at San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development and The Dream Keeper Initiative, Citizen Film collaborates with Black business owners to tell their stories in creative ways that make a community-building impact.
