ABOUT BALANCING ACTS
This documentary, exploring the life and times of Yiddish theatre director Solomon Mikhoels, is on view through June 11, 2017 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in the exhibition Chagall: Colour and Music. This multidisciplinary exhibition is the first to focus on Chagall’s profound connection to music in his life and work. Through this original approach, the exhibition demonstrates how all of Chagall’s work, from his paintings, works on paper, costumes, sculptures, ceramics, stained glass and tapestries to his creations for the stage and his large-scale decorative and architectural projects, were imbued with musicality.

MORE About BALANCING ACTS
“Film sequences in the exhibit, including five minutes of GOSET’s King Lear and a brief, incisive documentary by Sam Ball, suggest that Mikhoels merits billing equal to Chagall…” -The Forward. Balancing Acts was the centerpiece film in the Jewish Museum New York and Contemporary Jewish Museum San Francisco multimedia exhibition: Chagall and the Artists of Russian-Jewish Theatre 1919-1949. Media from this exhibit was also presented in October 2015 at Paris’ Musée de la Musique for an exhibition about Chagall’s artistic collaborations.
