ABOUT BRANDI PORTER
Brandi Porter, owner of Loving My Hair Braiding Shop in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point Third Street corridor, provides free haircuts and braiding services to local foster youth. A former foster child herself, Porter says she remembers the pain of not having anyone to tend to her hair. “I wanted to be like the other kids,” she explains. “So it became my passion. Because your crown is your glory!” Porter’s work, which she calls “therapy” for her and her clients, has inspired many others to serve their communities through micro-enterprises.

ABOUT CITIZEN FILM AND BLACK ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Many black entrepreneurs in the Bay are committed to creating spaces that keep dollars in their neighborhoods and lift up their communities. Sharing powerful, authentic stories of these entrepreneurs’ work—their dreaming, striving, overcoming challenges and celebrating achievements—is essential to supporting their successes and to manifesting a collective, community-centered vision.
With the support of our partners at San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development and The Dream Keeper Initiative, Citizen Film collaborates with Black business owners to tell their stories in creative ways that make a community-building impact.
